Let Me Run

Let Me Run is much more than a running program for boys. Teams meet twice week for seven weeks during our fall and spring seasons. The season ends with the boys running in a 5k.
Our trained coaches combine exercise with fun activities and lessons to help boys learn teamwork, build relationship skills, create friendships, grow emotionally, amplify their self-esteem, empower themselves and others, and live an active lifestyle. We nurture and celebrate every aspect of what it really means to be a boy, and we let them run.

After every season, family, friends, and teachers are astounded by the transformation each boy makes. Let Me Run boys leave the program with a sense of accomplishment, a deeper belief in self, and a greater appreciation for their peers.

My Help Foundation

During the summer children experience “summer learning loss” when they are not involved in high quality programs with opportunities for skill building.  As a result, childre can forget up to two months of academic instruction, particularly in the areas of reading and math when they are not in school. My Help Foundation ensures that they are receiving some type of education which includes a tutor teacher and have classes one-on-one, if possible.

Elizabeth Edwards Foundation The mission of the Elizabeth Edwards Foundation is to provide opportunities for achievement, enrichment, and public service for high school students who show great promise, but have limited resources. The Foundation follows the example that Elizabeth Edwards set by providing young people the kind of encouragement, support, and tools that they need to reach their fullest potential. Elizabeth Edwards students, called “fellows”, participate in academic tutoring, learn college and career preparatory skills, engage in public service in their community, and have the one-on-one support of a mentor. Elizabeth Edwards fellows are armed with pre-college resources and advising that is vital for success in today’s education world. Enrollment to the program is by application only. If you are interested in applying, please reach out directly to the organization.

Our students take weekly lessons in piano, brass, violin, chorus and art. We are one of the most diverse programs in our area with a nearly 50-50 split of African-American and Latino students in grades K-8th served by a diverse mix of licensed and bilingual teachers and education majors. The program utilizes a 1:15 teacher-student ratio for academic classes. Now in our 15th year, our program is sponsored by Charlotte Community Services Association and is based in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church-West in Charlotte. We also sponsor the six-week Clara H. Jones Summer Institute, which provides daylong academic and fine arts instruction. Finally, we provide snacks and at least one hot, full meal each day.

Juvenile Literacy Center The Juvenile Literacy Center provides twice weekly one-on-one literacy and academic tutoring and small group classes for referred juveniles throughout the Triangle. This program also incorporates life skills instruction (i.e. employment, health, civics, parenting). We furnish students with the literacy skills needed to secure jobs and advance in an economic environment where workers must be able to understand and digest information quickly. My Help Foundation During the summer children experience “summer learning loss” when they are not involved in high quality programs with opportunities for skill building.  As a result, childre can forget up to two months of academic instruction, particularly in the areas of reading and math when they are not in school. My Help Foundation ensures that they are receiving some type of education which includes a tutor teacher and have classes one-on-one, if possible.
